He’ll Never Love Another

I love later in life romance, and when there’s a secret involved, it adds to fun. Pastor Trey won my heart. Now a widower, he’s strong and kind and can’t take his eyes of Hannah. She’s sweet, if a little damaged, but will she dare love again?

She doesn’t believe in second chances. He’s wondering why God called him to Crystal Creek. Can she convince him to walk away, or will he prove his love is everlasting?

Pastor Trey Channing is lost in grief when he answers God’s call to travel to a small town. He and his teenage children struggle to let God heal the loss that led them on a cross-country journey. As Trey gets to know Crystal Creek, he’s drawn to Hannah McKean, a friendly waitress whose smile doesn’t hide the pain in her eyes.

Hannah knows God never forsook her even when she turned away from Him. In a weak moment, she committed a mistake that stole her future and made each day a struggle to provide for her and her daughter. Believing this lapse has ruined all chances for love, she’ll never get close to another man again.

When a terrible accident hospitalizes Hannah, it’s the kind pastor who stands by her side and creates a longing for more. To save herself from heartbreak, she pushes him away. What she hadn’t expected was someone more stubborn than she when it comes to answering love’s call.

Will Trey prove Hannah right and leave, or will he teach her that once she loves herself, she can open her heart to his love?

Another Chance at Love is the first book in the Christian romance series Hearts of Crystal Creek. If you like age-gap romance for people who think they’ve lost their chance at love, then you’ll love Laura Haley-McNeil’s sweet romance tales.

This Excerpt Will Pull You In

Trey Channing took in the faces of his teenaged son and daughter, Elliott and Blayne, and watched them pick at their congealed egg in the Crystal Creek restaurant. Did they miss their mother, Katrina, or were they remembering last summer’s vacation in Paris?

He remembered every detail―his late wife’s bright eyes when the family rode to the top of the Eiffel Tower, his son’s delight when a group of teens playing soccer in the park invited him to join them, and the scare their daughter gave them when she made friends with a French boy, more like a man, who had wanted her to take a ride with him on his scooter.

Trey didn’t blame the man for his attraction to Blayne. She was beautiful like her mother. The first time Trey saw Katrina at the venture capital company where they both worked, he told his friend Armando he planned to pursue her until she agreed to marry him.

“Can I get you anything else?” The waitress, who had introduced herself as Hannah, stood next to the table. She looked tired despite her carefully styled hair and light touches of makeup. She was tall and trim in her black jeans and a short black apron. Her black t-shirt bore the restaurant’s name and logo.

The restaurant had a stack of t-shirts near the cash register in case a customer had a hankering for Jimmy’s Dine-In, Eat-Out couture.

“As a matter of fact …” Trey felt Elliott’s and Blayne’s sharp glances but kept his gaze on the waitress. “We were planning to attend church this morning―”

“What? Dad.” Elliott drew out the title Trey had proudly acquired seventeen years ago when the doctor laid his infant son in Katrina’s arms. Of all the titles Trey had achieved during his life, that was the one he treasured most. “You said we’d go for a hike today.”

“Yeah, Dad.” Blayne gave him her confused expression.

Trey looked at his daughter. When he and Elliott had discussed the hike, Blayne had been editing a video on her phone. He hadn’t thought she was paying attention.

“Because we haven’t attended church in a while, I think we can delay the hike for an hour.” He looked back at Hannah. “We were wondering if you could recommend a church.”
