I was curious to know why small town romance was popular. To satisfy my curiosity, I researched the genre. Small towns are a great setting for romance. They have picturesque settings. Community is strong with entertaining residents that care about each other and can be wise. Small towns can be a great place for a character to go. She may be nursing a broken heart. Naturally, she needs to be around people who will accept her for who she is. That she meets the handsome new stranger, or the old love who broke her heart only adds to the story.
